JAMES HOWARD RICHEY

December 27, 1938 - October 20, 2021

On a beautiful fall morning, the angels lovingly escorted our dear "Opi", on a sunbeam, home to

heaven and a glorious eternal rest.

We, his family, John (Karen), Diana, Roy, Shannon and Bryce are deeply saddened to lose our father and grandfather but are so grateful that after many years of suffering with COPD, he is finally free to breathe anew in paradise.

He is now joined again with his beloved and faithful companion "Omi" (Marianne) who was lost to him in 2019.

Jim will forever be remembered for his kooky sense of humor. Opi and Omi's home was always filled with love and laughter. Many fun summers were had out at the Chesleys campground trailer that Opi built up. He was proud of that little place with its assortment of charming garden gnomes and for providing their little home in St. Andrews. He loved to try and build things for Omi and put a lot of work into making it cozy for her.

A retired painter for 26 years with the City of Winnipeg Public Works Department, Jim was expert at putting a "shine" on all his projects. Sadly his declining health as the years passed limited what he was able to do. Even though he could not participate in many activities, he found joy in computer gaming and was an unrivaled ipad golf and pool player.

Opi was so good to his grandkids. He built them snowslides in the winter and giggled patiently through endless episodes of AFV. He was goofy enough to jump into the water at the beach with Shannon... wrestling, more than riding, the blowup dinosaur and Bryce will say that he was the greatest person to cuddle on the couch with when he was little.

Opi was very generous in every way. We are especially grateful for that and also thankful to him for taking such good care of our mother all these years. They lived simply but he made sure they had everything they wanted and were comfortable.

We would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff at the Grace Hospital 3rd floor who cared so well for him in his last weeks. Also to the fine folks at Homecare who ministered to him so many years while his health was failing.

Cremation has taken place according to his wishes and a private interment in the family plot will take place at Glenlawn Cemetary when arrangements are finalized.

Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in everyway.
