JOANNE MARIA SAWCHUK

(née LACOMY)

 May 1, 1936 – November 30, 2021

It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our Mom and Grandma, on November 30, 2021.

Mom was predeceased by her loving husband Joe, and her parents Joseph and Mary Lacomy.

Mom and Grandma will be deeply missed by her children, Gary (Michelle), Colleen (Lorne), Darlene, Darrin (Lynn); grandchildren, Justin (Kristine), Stephan, Nolan, Avery; as well as her brother Greg Lacomy and family.

Mom has been retired for the last 20 years from the Seven Oaks School Division.

Mom lived her life on her terms and enjoyed every minute to the fullest, whether it was going to have her nails done or a simple trip to the store. That was our MOM.

Mom enjoyed travelling to see her grandchildren playing many sports over the years.

Mom’s favorite vacation spot was Las Vegas. “Mrs Las Vegas” as some would say.

Mom was part of the four Amigos – Mary, Joanne, Colleen and Darlene that travelled together to several different Casinos throughout the United States. Colleen and Darlene are left to carry on the Casino Junkets, Mom would have expected no less from her girls.

Mom’s summers were spent at Winnipeg Beach entertaining family and friends at the family cottage.  And boy did we have fun all those years from Churchill Drive to Oak Ave.

Mom enjoyed having her family gather for any occasion but especially for the Holidays. Along with her daughter Darlene they made all the special Ukrainian dishes like Perogies, Holubchi, Paska, Petiske, Borscht and Keshka. Oh yeah… we can’t forget to mention her famous coleslaw and Cheesecake. And we can’t forget to mention everyone’s favorite Mom’s Kucha or as Stephan calls it Buckshot Kucha.

Mom loved her sports be it hockey, football and even curling. Mom was a Winnipeg Jets fan but even a bigger Winnipeg Blue Bombers fan. Mom was a season ticket holder from back in the day when the team played at the old Osborne Stadium, then Canad Inn Stadium (Winnipeg Stadium) and now IG Field. Mom’s love and passion for the Blue Bombers shined through every game she attended. With the Blue Bombers back-to-back Grey Cups wins, her and Dad are dancing the Jive in the sky.

Cremation and a private family service has taken place.

In lieu, of flowers a donation can be made in Joanne’s name to Siloam Mission or to a charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank the staff at Grace Hospital Emergency and ICU for the care she received.

“The Heavens are Brighter with the addition of a New Star”

“Rest easy Mom till we meet again, you are so Loved and Missed”
