GENE G. SMITH

After beating the odds and battling pulmonary fibrosis for 6 and a half years, Gene passed away peacefully with his loving wife Trudy by his side on Thursday, February 24, 2022.

Gene is survived by his wife Trudy (his "Sweetpea"); Kerry (Jeff), Jennifer, Stephanie, and Teresa; his sisters Frances and Sandra (Michael); along with numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Gene married Trudy, the love of his life, 32 years ago. How do you put 32 years of love into words? They did everything together and were inseparable. They shared a very blessed marriage, made each other laugh with a closeness that was incredibly special. Trudy thanked God every night for the gift of Gene, and she knew he felt the same way about her. Our love is...to be continued.

Trudy was so proud of Gene for the person he was. He was highly respected in the welding profession, as an amazing welder, inspector, Q.A. person, and instructor. Gene wrote numerous manuals and his knowledge for welding was far beyond exceptional. Even after Gene's health had begun to decline, he still received numerous telephone calls requesting consultations on many different projects. The industry has lost an exceptional man and she has lost an exceptional husband.

We would like to thank the staff at the St. Boniface Hospital 5E for the excellent care and kindness shown not only to Gene but to Trudy as well. Another thank you to all the staff at Ethical Death Care, your compassion and assistance has been invaluable.

As per Gene's wishes, cremation has taken place and no service will be held. Gene’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.
