ALEXANDRIA "Alex" YABLONSKI

January 19, 1961 - December 28, 2023

Alex Yablonski passed away peacefully on December 28. 2023. Alex was born in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba.

Alex was predeceased by her parents Rose and Alexander.

Alex is survived by her loving husband Len, sister Kathryn Klassen (Ed), Brother Tim Collins (Joan), special nieces Kim and Michele, and an extended family and close friends.

Alex grew up on Airlies Street in North Winnipeg. She lived just a few houses away from her lifelong friend Sandy.  The two played together from a young age and it lasted forever. They were each other’s support as they went through life. Always talking or doing something fun, the two were the best of friends.

She met her husband Len in 1982 and dated for a few years before getting married in 1985. They had a wonderful life together travelling and seeing the world.  They loved going to Hawaii and visited the islands dozens of times. They also found time to go to the Caribbean, Europe, New Zealand and less exotic places like Florida and Texas and of course the shopping trips to Fargo and Grand Forks.

Alex loved fishing in and around Manitoba and spent great times at Lake of the Woods, Clearwater Bay, Ontario. She often out fished Len, even though he won’t admit it.

She was an avid reader across all genres and was involved in book clubs in her neighborhoods wherever she lived. She loved the arts, including the theatre, plays, and musicals at Rainbow Stage.

Alex was also a big fan of the Winter Olympics. One of her favourite events was figure skating. She as a big fan of Kurt Browning and enjoyed watching him skate.

Two significant highlights in Alex’s and Len’s life together were related to the Winnipeg Jets and Nascar. Alex and Len were present at the game when Teemu Selanne set the NHL rookie goal record at the Winnipeg Arena surpassing Mike Bossy’s old record. They were also in Fontana California and witnessed Jimmie Johnson win his first Nascar race. They were fortunate enough to be in the winners circle with the crew and team.

Alex had a successful career in the trucking industry, working at Reimers, Motorways and finishing her career at Paul’s Hauling. She retired in 2012 and spent time with Len fishing, travelling and going to musical jams in friends’ garages.

Alex was always a kind and caring host. She made everyone feel welcome in her home from barbecues, to pool parties, card nights, murder mysteries, and even making smores over a fire in the winter.

Alex was also very adept at winning radio contests, especially trivia.  She would often call in to local radio stations and win prize packs.  She would share her winnings with her friends by taking them along or giving some of the prizes away.

Alex really enjoyed trips to the local casinos with her sister Kathy when she came to visit Winnipeg.

Special thanks to Dr. Nguyen and staff at the Movement Disorder Clinic that supported Alex over the last 3 years as she battled Parkinson’s.

As per Alex’s wishes cremation has taken place. A private celebration of Alex’s life will be held in the future.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkinson Canada in her honour.

Alex’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.
