WILLIAM YALDERNICK

July 26, 1932 – January 3, 2021

With heavy hearts, we announce that William passed away peacefully on January 3, 2021 at the age of 88 years.

William was born in Winnipeg, the youngest of 6 children and grew up in the northern part of the city. Schools he attended were Norquay & David Livingstone elementary schools and St. John’s High School. He started with CNR in the early 1950’s and upon his retirement in the late 1980’s he had worked his way up to conductor.

He played fastball in his younger years with the Elmwood Giants. As an adult he curled until he damaged cartilage in his knee. But his love of sports was with the Blue Bombers. He was a devoted fan and season ticket holder for over 50 years. He was also an avid horse racing enthusiast. When he retired, he purchased property in East Selkirk with a barn and corral and raised his stable of horses there.

In 1952 Willy, as he was affectionately called, married Grace, the love of his life. They were married for only 8 years when Grace passed leaving him to raise 4 children with the help of his mother Mary.

His family were the love of his life. He enjoyed family gatherings for birthdays and Christmas. Boxing day parties and summer BBQ’s were a highlight with the extended family. He enjoyed “rough housing” with the grandsons and doting on his only granddaughter.

He is survived by daughters Cheryl (Mike); Donna (Denis); son Neil; grandchildren Michael (Andrea); James; Christopher; Lisa; great grandchildren Matthew & Connor; sister Irene & extended family. He was pre-deceased by parents Mary & Andrew; wife Grace; daughter Cindy; sisters Clara, Elsie & Grace and brother John.

Willy’s family kindly requests that his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. They also encourage the sharing of photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

In Accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family celebration of his life will be held when it is safe to come together.
