CARRIE (CAROLYN) ZECHEL

(née HALWACHS)

January 22, 1969 - August 29, 2023

It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Carrie (Carolyn) Zechel (née Halwach) on August 29, 2023.

Carrie is survived by her husband, Wesley Zechel, her parents Alfred and Gloria Halwachs, her brother Geoff Halwachs, her children Heather, Curtis (Karlene), Samantha (Scott), and Wyatt (Kendra), grandchildren Hunter, Ellie and Ivy, niece and nephews Sophie, Todd, and Ethan, as well as several other family members. Carrie was predeceased by her brother, Greg Halwachs, grandparents Annie and Joe Halwachs, and grandparents Joan and Lloyd Ruud.

Carrie was the eldest of three children and grew up in North Western Ontario. In the 1990's Carrie and Wes met and, together, they built their lives in Transcona. Carrie enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, giving them gifts and craft items, and watching them play. Carrie enjoyed going to the farmers market when she had the chance, going to visit family at the lake, getting her nails done, going for lunch, and watching her cats play.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023 from 1:30PM to 4PM at the Grace Community Church at 280 Caron Road, Headingly, MB.

A special thank you from the family to the teams at the St. Boniface Hospital Emergency Room and the ACCU unit. The teams were amazingly supportive and caring towards Carrie and the family in the final days of Carrie's life. The family also thanks Ethical Death Care for assisting the family with Carrie's final arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that a donation be made to either Canadian Diabetes or Heart and Stroke Foundation.
